Beginner 1

  1. Safe entry into water.
  2. Movement in water by any means (walking, running, jumping)
  3. Blow bubbles through mouth and nose (Explosive breathing)
  4. Immerse face in water and pick up sinker
  5. Floats – unaided star on Front
  6. Floats – unaided star on Back
  7. Unaided push & glide on front to/from the wall
    with independent recovery and explosive breathing
  8. Unaided push & glide on back to/from the wall
    with independent recovery
  9. Travel 5m in prone position – unaided
    Explosive breathing and independent recovery
  10. Travel 5m in supine position – unaided, independent recovery

Note: Independent recovery means the child stands up without using the wall/steps/
teacher as an aid.

Beginner 2

  1. Floats: star, pencil, mushroom
  2. 5m streamlined unaided kicking on front (arms correct position)
  3. 5m streamlined unaided kicking on back (arms correct position)
  4. 10m frontcrawl – arms clearing water with breath
  5. Frontcrawl standing breathing with arms
  6. Sculling arms headfirst on back
  7. 10m backcrawl – arms clearing water, with breathing
  8. 360â—¦ rotation with a breath – arms stretched behind head or down at sides
  9. introduction to deep water

Adv. Beginner 1

  1. Jump in and recover to wall at 1m and 1.5m depth
  2. 10m frontcrawl with breath to side every 2/3 strokes
  3. 10m backcrawl, arms clearing water, streamlined body position, with breathing
  4. Streamlined 180â—¦ rotation every 4/5 strokes
  5. 10m inverted breaststroke unaided
  6. 10m breaststroke with correct feet position – kick/arms/breath
  7. 10m dolphin kick – arms at side/streamlined
  8. submerge and pick up a sinker at 1m depth
  9. Treading water – 30 seconds

Adv. Beginner 2

  1. 15m frontcrawl – continuous, arms clearing water, breathe to side every
    2/3 strokes
  2. 15m backcrawl – continuous, arms clearing water, with breathing
  3. 15m Breaststroke – continuous, feet dorsi-flexed, correct timing
    (Pull, Breathe, Kick, Glide)
  4. 15m Butterfly – continuous, arms clearing, 2 kicks, 1 pull, breathe every stroke
  5. 15m inverted breaststroke – continuous, correct feet position (dorsi-flexed)
  6. 15m sculling – head or feet first
  7. Treading water – 60 seconds
  8. Head/feet first surface dive to retrieve sinker at 1.5m depth
  9. Handstand or tumble attenpt

Improver 1

  1. Correct starts (push & glide) and touch finishes
  2. 25m Frontcrawl – continuous, efficient stroke, breathe to side every 2/3 strokes
  3. 25m Backcrawl – continuous, arms clearing water, efficient stroke,
    streamlined, with breathing
  4. 25m Breaststroke – correct technique, dorsi-flexed feet,
    correct timing (Pull, Breathe, Kick, Glide)
  5. 25m Butterfly – 2 kick, 1 arm cycle, breathing every 1 or 2 strokes
  6. 25m Inverted Breaststroke – continuous, dorsi-flexed feet
  7. Straddle jump into 1.5m deep water and tread water for 60 seconds
  8. 25m streamlined 360â—¦ rotation on 6-kick cycle

Improver 2

  1. 50m Frontcrawl – continuous, efficient, breathe to side every 2/3 strokes
  2. 50m Backcrawl – continuous, efficient, correct timing, arms clearing the water
    with breathing.
  3. 50m Breaststroke – continuous, efficient, feet dorsi-flexed, correct timing
    (Pull, Breathe, Kick, Glide)
  4. 25m butterfly – continuous, 2 kick, 1 arm cycle, breathe every 1 or 2 strokes
  5. 50m inverted breaststroke – feet dorsi-flexed, correct kick technique
  6. correct starts and finishes for all strokes
  7. 100m Individual Medley – Butterfly, Backcrawl, Breaststroke, Frontcrawl
